In some ways, learning to compose for a panoramic format (in this case, 65:24 or put another way, 2.76:1) is a lot like learning how to walk again after a hip injury. Something you've been doing all your life without giving it much, if any conscious thought, now requires a lot of focused effort from you to achieve results that are only half as good!
I obviously have a long way to go before I'm fully "recovered" from changing formats, but I'm optimistic and IMO, the early results I'm achieving are encouraging. One aspect of the panoramic format that I'm particularly enjoying is the ability to photograph from angles I previously had to avoid in order to fit the primary subject into the frame.
This photo is a good example, because composing for a less-panoramic format would have forced me to include a lot more foreground or sky than I would prefer or, frankly, know what to do with it.
