Over the edge of the Mogollon Rim

Location: Somewhere along FR 300, looking over the Tonto Basin from the Mogollon Rim, north of Payson, AZ

Even a minor misstep here -- which is easy to make due to the thick carpet of forest debris covering a lot of small, irregularly shaped rocks that combine to make this an uneven / unstable surface to walk across -- will likely result in a very bumpy, almost certainly fatal fall all the way to the bottom, many hundreds of feet below. As such, I stay a foot or two away from the absolute edge, just to be safe, as I did here.

FYI, using a tripod in these conditions is difficult, if not outright impossible, so this photo (as well as all the others taken on this outing) was taken with the camera handheld.
