Mercedes 300SL

This is a crappy snapshot, to be sure, but it is a crappy snapshot of a truly beautiful car and one that is not often seen on the road these days. It was parked in front of a Scottsdale hotel this past Sunday morning and I spotted it as I was driving back to my office after having breakfast with a friend. Fortunately, I had a camera with me, so I couldn't resist stopping to take a few photos...

Note: The presence of knock-off wheels suggests this could be one of the 29 alloy-bodied cars that were made, as they were optional on the standard, steel-bodied versions (and a costly option at that!); if so, then this car is really, really, REALLY rare and very, very, VERY valuable, as a Google search shows that one of the alloy-bodied cars sold not too long ago for a whopping US$4.2 million!

Splendid car! Not only rare and valuable, but very beautiful ! I wonder when it was made.

@christine: The street version of the 300SL was in production from approx. 1955 through 1963, but I don't know enough about these cars to pin down the precise model year of this one. So it could be anywhere from 49 to 57 years old ... wow!

A crappy snapshot, maybe, but we have the picture! Finally, the best camera, it is the one with you! ;-)

Thanks for the information Jeffrey. The car is almost as old as I am, and it hasn't a single wrinkle... I'm envious. :)
