I'm not much of a portraitist, but I do take quite a few snapshots of my family these days and every so often, one of them stands out from all the rest, such as this one of my 73-year old mother. (Alas, what's not evident from this photo is that she suffers of dementia, which is a common side effect of the rare brain disorder that took from her the ability to speak many years ago and will ultimately be the cause of her demise once she is no longer able to swallow. She always supported my photography and it's sad that now that I'm finally hitting my stride with it after all these years, she's no longer able to understand or enjoy it. Or if she does, express that to me.)
