This smokestack is a companion to the smelter complex that was featured here yesterday and is even more prominent on the hillside north of Superior proper. Unfortunately, it's difficult to get a sense of scale here, but at its widest point, the smokestack is at least 20' across and some 200' tall. It's quite an impressive sight, especially as you approach the town from the west on US60 (as you round a bend, it suddenly appears on the horizon, framed dead center at the end of the road, sort of like a pot of gold at the end of a rainbow), but creating an interesting photograph that features it isn't easy and this image represents the best of many failed efforts that day.
